Exhibition

Content of exhibitons at Museum of  Culture  and History is built on the basis of artifact collections and the existing equipments of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities Ho Chi Minh City, initially introduced about material and spirit life of Peoples in Vietnam.

The Museum of  Culture and History collaborated with the Museum of Ho Chi Minh City built outline and staged artifact exhibitions covering an area of about 200m2 with 3 different themes:

Exhibiting about Archaeology (Prehistory-History Room) 

Archaeological artifacts Gallery includes many material, primarily original, real arttifacts reflect the existing and creating culture of humans over time and according to the specific space. 

That are artifacts in the Stone Age and Metal Age in North and North Central; The South-Central and Central Highlands; The East and West of Southern Vietnam. The typical ones is the collection of stone tools - jewelry of archaeological cultures in the Metal Age entitled ‘Dongnai culture’, dated back 2,000 to 4,500 years before present.

The mainly historical artifacts on display are ceramics, such as ceramic in Oc Eo culture, celadon (Ly-Tran), stoneware dated 16th-17th centuries. Typical object was the jar (call ‘Chum’ in Vietnammese, usually biger much than jar) contain the oil era Le-Nguyen (17th -19th  centuries) found intactly in the ancient city of Ha Noi.

 

Exhibiting about Ethnology (Ethnic People Culture Room) 

Artifact Galleriy of Ethnology does not focus on a specific Ethnic People in ‘Family of all Peoples in Vietnam’, they introduce about artifacts which reflect many fields of human life in different enviroment: 

Labour tools, used in agriculture: axe, rice picking tool, hoe, wicks, sticks to break hole to plant seeds,…

Gatherer tools: types of ‘gui’ (‘gui’, “gùi” in Vietnammese, is kind of basket, made by wood or bamboo, has two strap to wear on your shoulder to keep ‘gui’ on your back), baskets, … ,

Hunting and Fishing Tools: bow, crossbow,  traps, net, basket,…

Costumes: male and female costumes, brocade,scarf, etc,...

Instrument: Gong, ‘goong’ (‘goong’ is a string intrument common in some ethic group in Kon Tum and Gia Lai provine in Central Highlands of Vietnam), flute, ‘khen’, ‘đàn đá’ (an special musical instrument with the body made by stone, use wooden bar to percuss to make sound), ‘đàn nước’ (an special musical instrument made by wood, usually placed next to river or stream, use wind and water power to make sound),…

The gadget: mortar-pounded rice, rice bag,  gourd used as water containers,

 

Exhibiting about Tombs and Burial ( Tomb Culture Room) 

Show many artifacts relating to the burial sites in the area Southern of Vietnam, such as: human bones and remains buried in soil in Can Gio – (2,300-2,000 years BP), the grave in Phu Tho Hoa, the Tomb in the Nguyen Tri Phuong street and in the Pasteur Institute), Mummy of a man in Xuan Thoi Thuong village in Hoc Mon (all are in Ho Chi Minh City); and remains in tombs of Dongson culture ( Lang Vac site - Nghe An province), Sahuynh culture (collected in Hoi An), Dongnai culture ( Doc Chua site – Binh Duong provine). In addition, the Exhibiting also display various kind of of jewelry (beads, bracelets, rings, etc.), weapons which are buried under tomb style ‘Kurgan’ of Peoples in the  Central Highlands (Tay Nguyen).

At the outside exhibition, the Museum has collaborated with the Center for Preservation and Promotion value of relics (belong to Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho Chi Minh City) restored an pretty architecture grave (from 1899).

In 2012, the Museum also prepares the content for exhibition at two new rooms with total area of 375m2 under 3 themes: ‘Vietnammese cultural history’, ‘The cultural - history of Vietnam ethnic communities’, and ‘Trades and traditional trade Villages’.

About education and popularizing knowledge, every school-year, the Museum welcomes about 8,000 participation, includes students and lecturers, who are studying and teaching at Linh Trung – Thu Duc, visit, study and research. Moreover, the Museum makes effective practical and researching environment for 30 students from various majors as: Archaeology, Anthropology, Vietnammese History, Museum and Heritage, Vietnammese Study,…inside and outside university (ex: the University of Culture Ho Chi Minh city). Furthermore, the Museum has also created favorable conditions for media agencies introduction about many unique artifacts stored at the museum (Vietnam Television – VTV9, Ho Chi Minh City Television – HTV, Sai Gon Marketing,…).
